If you’re reading this, you probably fall in one of the following categories:

  • A parent
  • A school owner
  • A school administrator, leader or manager
  • A school non-teaching staff or teaching staff
  • The government or one of its officials.

No? Surely you’re an aunt, an uncle, a cousin, a friend, a guardian or most definitely a human being. Either way, we are all affected by unsafe children and schools! Our future depends on them being safe.

Do you get that familiar, dull feeling in your gut as though something is wrong with today’s educational system and structure?

Do you feel bothered about the overall safety of school children, teenagers and young adults of this generation?

Do you wonder if they’re being taught the right lessons and if yes, are they being taught in the right environment, and if they are, what about their friends and school mates, are they in their right state of minds? Are they mentally and emotionally healthy?

Yes?

You’re right to wonder!

Every day, we either read in the papers or watch on the news, stories of children being abused by those they are entrusted to including teachers or tutors. And even by their peers. This sadly is the least of the abnormalities that happen in schools today. Let’s share with you some of the stories that stuck out for us!

A report published on Monday, 2nd of September, 2019 by Benedict Moore-Bridger says that 8,000 crimes were logged at London schools in just one year. How alarming is that? From crimes like possession of a deadly weapon to rape and other violent crimes. Should this be happening in schools today?

Kenya school collapse: 7 dead, scores wonder in Nairobi.

According to the report by Aljazeera, at least seven students have been killed and scores wounded after the classroom of a school in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, collapsed.

Most supposed standard schools are graded so because a lot of emphasis and priorities have been placed on the aesthetics of the buildings rather than the safety of the children and school staff in it. FACT.

US Legislation seeks to create national design-focused school safety database.

The United States Senate has taken up consideration of School Safety as Legislation seeks to create national design-focused school safety database.

This, you would agree is a good initiative as it seeks to ensure that schools are safer through design. This will not only compel school administrators to put safety first, but it also would ensure that schoolchildren learn in the most conducive environment. Read the full article HERE.

UK schools risks sexualising children as young as 6!

Did you hear about the controversial “All About Me” teaching programme that is already being adopted in 241 primaries by Warwickshire County Council and could be adopted by other local authorities next year as part of the Government’s overhaul of ‘Relationship and Sex Education’ (RSE)?

Children as young as SIX are to be given compulsory self-touching lessons that critics say are sexualising youngsters Under this “All About Me” programme. Children as young as six are being taught lessons such as “Touching Myself” which is aimed at educating them about touching or ‘stimulating’ their own genitals.

They’re told it is okay to touch themselves when they feel like it. However, they’re being reminded that it is inappropriate to touch themselves in public places but can do so in their rooms, or in the bathrooms when taking their baths. We wonder if this is something children as young as 6 should be taught.

Aren’t we missing the point of child and school safety. Sex education can certainly take place without the need for real life hands-on practical sessions!
